The Department of Computer Science welcomes applicants for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August, 2018. Responsibilities include teaching, advising students, scholarly work and department and university service. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs.

TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Effectively teach students both in assigned courses and outside-the-classroom settings (e.g., student research, service learning, field activities and placements), advise students, and carry out other assigned professional responsibilities in support of student learning and success. The academic-year workload for full-time faculty is 24 workload hours (typically 3 4-credit courses with 2 preparations) and faculty must hold a minimum of five office hours per week on no fewer than three different days. Primary teaching responsibility is major and/or non-major courses (lectures and laboratories) in general Computer Science as well as in their area of specialization. Establish an active research program that involves undergraduate students. Candidates must be willing to teach day, evening and/or weekend classes and conduct classes through multifaceted teaching strategies for face-to-face classroom delivery and/or web-enhanced or web-based formats. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs.

Provide service on an ongoing basis by contributing professionally to department and university governance, the professional community and/or the community at large, in a participatory, developmental, or advisory capacity. Candidates must be willing to participate in undergraduate- and graduate-level curricular activities including assisting the program faculty in activities associated with maintaining program approval at the state and national levels.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

The 7-member department is housed with modern teaching labs and dedicated faculty research labs. The Department of Computer Science, in the College of Science and Technology, has about 250 majors. The department offers an ABET accredited B.S. degree program in Computer Science and a minor.

Required Qualifications
  • ABD with Ph.D. in Computer Science or closely related field completed by the time of appointment.
  • Ability and willingness to teach a wide range of Computer Science courses, documented by one of the following: transcript, teaching philosophy, letter of reference, peer review of teaching, student evaluations or teaching awards.
  • Ability to establish an active research program in Computer Science that involves undergraduate students.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and research at the undergraduate level.
  • Commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Successful interview, teaching demonstration and three successful background checks: Act 34 (Criminal Record Check); Act 114 (FBI Federal Criminal History-Fingerprinting); and Act 151 (Child Abuse History Clearance).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience at the university level and supporting evidence of teaching ability:
    ( a ) peer/supervisor review of teaching;
    ( b ) student evaluations;
    ( c ) teaching awards.
