Job Summary/Basic Function

The Assistant Director of Institutional Research (IR), under the director of the IR Director, will manage, plan, analyze and synthesize, and present information independently, or as appropriate, to secure and advance Millersville University’s strategic posture within the region, the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and beyond.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Create all reports and support the management of the data submissions as required by the Pennsylvania System of Higher Education (PASSHE), state and federal agencies, and the System Data Collection Plan. Collaborate on the development of the System-wide information management systems.
  • Address information requests from University Management and perform both descriptive and inferential statistical studies and analysis of institutional programs and data. This includes the program analysis.
  • Supervise the production of the annual University fact book, 5-year Program Reviews data packets, admissions and enrollment reports.
  • Create/maintain queries, procedures, forms, and data tables for Institutional Research using SQL/Hyperion or similar advanced report writer, and assemble and organize information essential to the IR office. Provide expertise and leadership to manage Millersville’s strategic placement in external publications and guidebooks.
  • Provide collaborative leadership and administrative oversight of the data submission process with IT and data stewards. Archive extensive institutional, system-wide, state-wide, and national data (IPEDS, System Data Collection Plan, System Accountability Plan, System Data Warehouse, System Instructional Cost/Productivity Data), and assemble this information into meaningful planning information for the various strategic committees.
  • Supervise GA’s and student workers.
  • Act for the Director of Institutional Research in his or her absence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree
  • Two years of experience in Institutional Research or related administrative function at a US institution of higher learning while utilizing MS Word and Excel.
  • Two statistics or statistically-based courses or comparable experience, including knowledge of SPSS or similar statistical software packages.
  • Expertise in information technology (Student Information Systems and query/report writing)
  • Evidence of commitment to equity and diversity

  • Successful interview and three background checks: Criminal Background Check (Act 34); Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151); and FBI Federal Criminal History-Fingerprinting (Act 114)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters, or higher, in a quantitative field
  • Experience writing SQL queries against a campus-wide administrative system
  • Institutional Research experience
  • Inferential Statistics
