Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of Nursing occasionally needs temporary part-time instructors. Primary responsibility will be to teach undergraduate (RN-BSN) and graduate (FNP and Nursing Education options) courses with an Academic workload of 9 credit hours, or less, per semester, and no more than three preparations per semester. Temporary, part-time instructors may conduct classes through multifaceted teaching strategies for didactic or face to face classroom delivery, clinical and/or web enhanced or web-based format; prepare classes from approved syllabus; facilitate learning within the parameters of faculty academic freedom and responsibility; foster student and encourage progress through the curriculum to facilitate successful outcome. Other responsibilities may include the following: teaching at off-site locations (Harrisburg, etc.); maintain skills laboratory and equipment; provide consultation in area of expertise; supervise MSN students’ learning experiences in clinical setting; supervision of students enrolled in assigned courses for Independent Study, and Individualized Instruction; serve as faculty advisor for scholarly projects/research; as per the CBA, five office hours per week (or by local agreement) are required.

In addition to teaching, there is an expectation for scholarship and service commensurate with the assignment.

Required Qualifications

-Master of Science in Nursing degree OR
Master of Science in Nursing degree, FNP, ANCC/AANP certified, CRNP licensed and currently practicing in PA
- Current RN licensure in Pennsylvania and/or CRNP Licensure in Pennsylvania
- Evidence of effective teaching and communication skills
- Commitment to nursing practice and scholarship
- Successful interview and teaching demonstration
- Evidence of commitment to equity and diversity
- Valid driver’s license, willing to travel to off-campus sites to teach (Harrisburg) and/or supervise FNP students in clinical setting.
- Three Successful background checks: Act 34 (Criminal Record Check); Act 114 (FBI Federal Criminal History-Fingerprinting); and Act 151 (Child Abuse History Clearance).
