Job Summary/Basic Function

The History department at times needs temporary, part-time Instructors to fill in for faculty on sabbaticals or leaves. In the past, typical assignments for temporary part-time instructors have been introductory level survey courses in Europe and the World and/or American history.

The History department offers a B.A. and M.A. in History and B.S.E. in Social Studies Education. In addition to offering a wide range of courses in the traditional fields of United States history and European history, the department also offers courses dealing with Africa, Latin America, the Atlantic, the Middle East, Violence, Women, and the Holocaust. Millersville University is the only institution in southeastern Pennsylvania outside the Philadelphia area to grant a Master’s of Arts in History.

In addition to teaching, there is an expectation for scholarship and service commensurate with the assignment.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in History. Prior college-level history teaching experience. Evidence of ability to successfully teach students of diverse populations. Successful interview and teaching demonstration. Three successful background checks: Act 34 (Criminal Record Check); Act 114 (FBI Federal Criminal History-Fingerprinting); and Act 151 (Child Abuse History Clearance).
